Title I Math September News
Welcome back everyone!! I hope everyone had a great summer. This is Mr. Gilkey with a Title I Math Update. First of all, I am excited to be the new Title I Math Interventionist here at Weimer. Secondly, I would like to thank everyone that came out to our Title I Orientation night. It was very exciting to see all the parents interested in what we do here at Weimer.
This time of year, is the time that K-2 students get assessed at the beginning of the year using the Assessing Math Concepts assessment. This assessment gives me a baseline of what number concept skills they have and drives the activities that I will work on with your child throughout the school year. The focus of K-2 is to fine tune and develop their concepts of numbers
In grades 3-5 we will focus on reinforcing what skills they are being taught during their core lessons as well as targeting skills that they might be struggling with on the CIA beginning of the year test.
As a reminder I would encourage you to work on basic addition and multiplication facts with your child each night. Knowing these is so crucial in building a foundation for many math skills your child will learn while here at Weimer.
Again, I am very excited to take on this new role at Weimer and I look forward to working with you and your child to build strong math foundations and skills.
